Resolved Question: college appeal letter…your opinion please?
I have to write an appeal letter because I was denied readmission. The story is below in my appeal letter, but I need to know if it is too much or what? I’m confused on if I need to add more or take some away. Does it sound like I’m begging??? I haven’t edited any so there may be some gramatical errors.

To Whom It May Concern:

This letter is to appeal the denial of my re-admission to The University of Texas at San Antonio. It has come to my attention that I was denied admission due to my low GPA at The University of Oklahoma Norman Campus. I would like the admissions department to reconsider their decision once they have reviewed the situation that resulted in the low GPA at the previous University.
I was a student at UTSA for four years, and was an average student. My cousin and I are the first of my family to attend college, and UTSA is the college we both chose. I greatly enjoyed UTSA and would love to attain my bachelor’s from such a well known university. I have confidence that the great faculty and staff can guide me to the career I desire as I experienced straight out of high school. In return, I will devote my studies and strive to be a better student than before.
I married a US Navy petty officer which resulted in us moving to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma where he was stationed at Tinker AFB. I was granted admission into The University of Oklahoma Norman Campus for the fall semester of 2007. I was excited, and relieved that I had no issues continuing my education. However, it was disappointing that nearly half of my credits did not transfer. I decided to take only once course. We were in the process of buying our first home together, and adjusting to the state. I found a job working at OU Health Science Center in accounting department, which I extremely enjoyed working in the field I desired to study.
It was not long before my husband and I found out we were expecting. It was very hard for me to cope with everything, as this was the first time I was away from home. Soon after, my husband told me had he decided to stay in the service he would be deployed on a ship for an unknown amount of time. This took a toll not only on the future of my family, but also my marriage and the health of my unborn baby and me. We soon decided that my husband’s presence for the birth of my daughter and her life was much more important. It was at that time that we decided we would separate from the military and start our family and future back in San Antonio, Texas. We thought that would be the answer to all our problems, but we were mistaken. At that time, I missed the deadline to drop my course by a day or two. I was told it would not transfer back to UTSA, and I felt that I did not need to complete the class. I thought the payment of the course and time was all that I lost. Now, that I know that was not all that was lost, I deeply regret taking the easy way out.
We moved back to San Antonio in the summer of 2008, and are completely settled in. I wished to take classes as soon I returned San Antonio. I had to be honest with myself, and decided I needed to wait. I knew I could not take on more than I could handle, as I learned my lesson last time around. It has now come my time to continue my education and plan a better life for my family. I now have a bigger and better reason to accomplish my life time goal, and “failure is not an option” is my motto.
I am grateful for the work experience in Oklahoma, because I realized that is something that I do not want as my career. I have now decided that I will follow my dream as a child to pursue my education as a math teacher.
I have the potential and desire to be that student that the university will be proud of. With the universities assistance I would like to accomplish my life time goal and attain a bachelor’s degree from The University of Texas at San Antonio. With all do respect, I would like the university to reconsider my application once more.

Resolved Question: Don’t you think people should celebrate more holidays?! Look all these ones for april?
Have you ever heard of all these little holidays that no one really celebrates.

I think that if people celebrated holidays every day then people would get less bored with their lives. Like the 15th is mcdonalds day so everyone would be goin to mcdonalds that day.

And then there’s 420 of course.. haha

And then 16th is high five day so you’d give everyone a high five! And then the 30th is national honesty day. So you would tell the truth the whole day. I think it would be awesome if more people celebrated these holidays

Voting Question: Question for Americans?
I live in Canada and I have a question for you.

Don’t you find this odd that in your so-called “free” country, any 10 year old child, even if obese or diabetic, can purchase as much as they want of any of the following products: soft drinks, potato chips, so-called “freedom” fries, fatty and sugary cookies/pastries, McDonald’s food, and all the other crap that is destroying the health of an entire generation.

BUT, a 20-year-old who went to fight in Iraq at the age of 18 to defend the honor of their country, who gets discharged for saying he’s gay (another stupid law), and upon returning to his hometown at age 20 is elected mayor of his city, and who sips a glass of wine at his inauguration ceremony, is slammed with a criminal record for the rest of his life?

The mayor of Muskogee, Oklahoma, is 20. Isn’t that bizarre that someone who is old enough to be a mayor may be criminally charged for “minor” in possession?

Discussion and thoughts on those issues are welcome.
The mayor of Muskogee wasn’t charged for MIP and isn’t an army veteran. The 20-year-old veteran story is just to show what someone can do for their country before 21. I may not have clearly separated the hypothetical and the real-life examples, sorry.
The brain actually doesn’t stop developing until 25. But this is a blunt argument, the drinking age is 18 everywhere else in the non-Muslim world (save for Japan and South Korea) and moderate alcohol use doesn’t cause brain damage.
Actually, 63% of the Canadian population lives under a drinking age of 19. But unlike the US, underage drinking and serving alcohol to an underager doesn’t result in a criminal record, it’s just a mere ticket. We’re still much less oppressive than the US.

Resolved Question: Chemo & Radiation…Yes or No?
Mid March I recv’d a phone call that my Father who lives out of state. Had been hospitalized and was not expected to make it. My brother and I arrived at the hospital within 24 hrs and was met by his Dr who immediately told us he had pneumonia and because of his dementia and alcoholism was going to call in the state to take custody of him if we didn’t want to. Please keep in mind we were unaware of any health issues with him. The next day we hired an attorney, day after that appeared before a judge and gained guardianship. After 1 week in the hospital and 4 weeks in a skilled nursing facility we prepared him for the move back to California with us. Over a 6 week time frame I made 3 trips to Oklahoma. I contacted UC Irvine Research Center for Aging and Demential before we moved him. Scheduled his appts for the week after the move. Obtained a new primary care Dr. The week following the move he saw his new Dr-she ordered a Brain CT, did a chest X-Ray and blood work. (Did I mention he has diabetes?) His tests came back as follows: CT-revealed moderate dementia and a previous stroke. Blood work showed 3rd stage kidney failure. Chest X-Ray showed a 2.7 x 2.0 mass causing concern for maliginacy. She referred him to a lung specialist who saw him 3 days later who ordered a Pet Scan. The next week the Pet Scan came back indicating multiple tumors in left lung. Colon, bladder, bowel, 3 ribs, 1 vertebre, invasion of the chest wall and his tonsils. The next week a biopsey was done and 8 days ago I was told that he has extended small cell lung cancer undifferentiated. His primary Dr said she personally would not put a loved one through chemo and radiation that was in his condition. She did however move forward with referrals to the oncologists. After my brother and I received the news and knew the appts had been made for July 6. We booked a 75′ houseboat on Lake Powell for the entire family to spend a vacation together. We have camped and fished Lake Powell many years as a family and want to do this for my Dad and for us while he is still functional to do so. The problem is….telling him. Yes, we will have his primary care Dr do that but the decision for Chemo and Radiation is all together another issue. At best it will be pallitive for him. We don’t know if the chemo oncologist will even determine if he will be able to tolerate chemo given all his health issues but won’t discuss it with me until he see’s my Father. There is a part of me that does not want to tell him that he has 2-4 months without any radiation or chemo. There’s a part of me that feels like he would want to fight the fight. Then there’s the part that just wants my Dad to enjoy as much of the time he has left doing what he loves and that is being with his family and fishing. Any insight or recommendation of treatment or lack of would be greatly appreciated. I am just at a loss…

Resolved Question: Wayman Tisdale former NBA star dead at age 44? Your thoughts?
By MURRAY EVANS, Associated Press Writer
2 hours, 13 minutes ago

Wayman Tisdale, a three-time All-American at Oklahoma who played 12 seasons in the NBA and later became a top jazz musician, died after a two-year battle with cancer. He was 44.

Tisdale died Friday morning at St. John Medical Center in Tulsa, hospital spokeswoman Joy McGill said.
http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news?slug=ap-obit-tisdale&prov=ap&type=lgns

Edit:

I don’t know too much about his basketball career. I know him best from his career in the “Smooth Jazz” industry. Dude is practically a house hold name in San diego California! I use to listen to his music when I was stationed in SD at the Naval School Of Health Sciences. For a former basketball player turned bass player, he could most definitely hold his own with the best out here. RIP bro! You and your music will be truly missed. :(

Resolved Question: Are illegals the problem with our healthcare system? Should taxpayers pay for their healthcare?
Facts:

•In Texas, where the state comptroller estimates illegal immigrants cost hospitals $1.3 billion in 2006, the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston is considering denying cancer care to such immigrants.

•State legislatures across the country are seeking to limit the costs to taxpayers of illegal immigration, including health care benefits. In May, Oklahoma lawmakers restricted illegal immigrants from receiving most public benefits; other states, such as Nebraska, are seeking to follow suit. A bill introduced in Indiana this month would make hospitals report how much they spend on illegal immigrants.

•On a national level, an effort to add legal immigrant children to the State Children’s Health Insurance Program was blocked in the Senate last year. Instead, lawmakers added language to ensure that illegal immigrants were excluded.

In California, a 2004 study by the Federation for American Immigration Reform put the state’s annual cost at $1.4 billion. Similar studies in Colorado and Minnesota in 2005 came up with much smaller estimates: $31 million and $17 million, respectively.

One thing is clear: Undocumented immigrants are driving up the number of people without health insurance. The Pew Hispanic Center estimates that 59% of the nation’s illegal immigrants are uninsured, compared with 25% of legal immigrants and 14% of U.S. citizens. Illegal immigrants represent about 15% of the nation’s 47 million uninsured people — and about 30% of the increase since 1980.

I for one do not think it is my responsbility to pay for their healthcare. Why do you democrats feel that it is the country’s responsibility?
